Exploring Indigo + Shibori
Time & Location
About the Event
Explore the wonders of natural indigo dyeing in combination with shibori resist techniques to create gorgeous blue patterns on cloth. Indigo is nature's blue, together we will mix up a dye vat and cover the basics for keeping your indigo in reduction and dyeing happy. From there we will dive into the wonderful world of shibori, an ancient Japanese method for resist dyeing, traditionally used with indigo dye. We will learn how to fold, wrap, and tie fabric to create a vast range of patterns. Participants need to bring 1 yard of cotton fabric (washed in hot water) and rubber kitchen gloves (there will be some available for purchase). You can also bring a cotton t-shirt to dye an indigo masterpiece. Check out Alex's beautiful work at www.fosterfiber.com!
Accessibility: This workshop will be taking place outside. There is a gravel driveway and the rest of the landscape is lawn or mulch, with some dips here and there but no real hills. We live in an old farmhouse, and our bathroom has a very narrow doorway, and there is a step going down to get into the house, and a step to get into the bathroom. We have not constructed our outdoor composting toilet yet (when we do, we will make sure it is wheelchair accessible). We are happy to help assist anyone who uses a wheelchair in and out of the house and around the property if needed. Stimming is welcome and we have a large wooded area anybody can go to anytime they may need a break.
Masks are mandatory for unvaccinated folks.
